Scope: Comprehend preschool teacher perceptions of how the organization supports them in conducting sustained high-quality adult-child interactions. Understand the importance of the Head Start program in the United States and the role of its teachers to improve school readiness of its students. Specifically, synthesizing interviews with Head Start teachers and giving a voice to their concerns. Teachers are best suited to conceptualize what works well in the classroom, which will ultimately lead to greater student outcomes. Teachers shared the organizational barriers to running an effective and efficient classroom, as well as, what can improve the classroom and the preschool teaching profession. 

 

 

Objective and Motivation:  To present and discuss with educators a recent qualitative study involving interviews with preschool teachers in the Head Start program. Giving an understanding to attendees of the findings and recommendations from the study that will lead to increased student outcomes. One motivation is to bring awareness of this study and share insight to the broader teaching profession since lessons learned are systemic. Lastly, to receive feedback from a diverse array of educators and administrators that will strengthen the study.
